Jailbreaking iPod Touch 1.1.1 and Apple Mobile Applications

After spending a small amount of time yesterday jailbreaking my ipod touch, and then getting third party applications as well as Apple's own Mail, Notes and Weather to work, I thought I'd share on how to do this. This guide will only work on firmware version 1.1.1 and uses an unpatched (then actually patched by this hack) safari hole to work. The process is pretty straight forward to do and as always I'm not responsible if you break anything while attempting this.

The entire process should take no more than five minutes.
  1. First, connect your ipod touch to a wireless network and browse to: http://jailbreakme.com/ and then wait for the page to load. Select the bottom option to install AppSnapp. Once its done, reboot your ipod and you're good to go.
  2. Next recommendation would be to install the Springboard.app so that your shiny new applications show in your home screen.
  3. You can download and install many applications from the Installer.app itself, but the more polished applications come from Apple directly, courtesy of the iPhone. To install these, launch Installer.app and then  click 'sources' on the bottom right. Click 'edit' located in the top right, and then 'add' in the top left.
  4. In the popup box, enter http://repo.us.to and then tap 'ok' then 'done'. Now tap 'install' and scroll down the list, you'll see Apple Mobile Mail and other Apple applications. For MobileMail and MobileMaps you'll need to install the Prep packages before the actual applications (they're located further down the list).

If you need to downgrade your firmware, checkout the attached links to this post.
